The Caol Ila distillery (pronounced "Cull Eela") is nestled in a secluded cove near Port Askaig on the Isle of Islay. Caol Ila is Gaelic for the Sound of Islay. The distillery opened in 1846.
Fresh, sweet-fruity, and smooth, full-bodied flavors characterize the straw-yellow Caol Ila 12 Year Old. All these flavors are well-balanced. The bright, appealing nose reveals subtle citrus fruit with a hint of smoke. Firm and smooth, it begins sweetly, then transitions to fragrant smokiness and a sweet-smoky, lingering finish.
This single malt won the silver medal in the Outstanding category at the 2015 International Wine & Spirits Competition.
