HERITAGE
Every great story begins with a time and place. For Mount Gay Rum, that's the Caribbean island of Barbados in
1703. The rum originally called "Kill-Devil" by the Barbadians, who were the first to distill it, is truly a product of the island. The abundance of molasses and the culinary creativity of the early settlers, as well as their legendary thirst for alcohol, led to this unique discovery in spirit production.
Double distillates:
Black Barrel is the result of a blend of a single distillate from a column still and a double distillate from a pot still, with the double distillate being present in greater quantities.
Double maturation:
The single and double distillates are first aged separately. After the initial blending, the blend is refined a second time in charcoal-charred Bourbon barrels. This unique finishing process releases balanced and characterful spiced aromas.
