Pampero Especial was the first wood-aged rum in Venezuela, a pioneer in rum history. Especial even became the new benchmark in quality for other rums. The founders of Pampero began aging in old oak barrels in 1938. Especial was the first Venezuelan rum to officially have an age (añejo) on the label. Today, it is a gold medal winner in taste tests. Pampero Especial is aged in old oak bourbon barrels. The flavor is initially creamy sweet, lightly spicy, and slightly lingering dryness, followed by woody notes, vanilla, honey, and sweet fruity flavors on the finish. Triple distillation gives Especial its rich golden color. It evokes the complexity of the Caribbean coast, the impressive mountains interspersed with forests and valleys. Especial can be enjoyed neat, but it will also make a delicious cocktail.
