Description

A superior whisky with a fruity character and delicious notes of honey and malt, very tasty!
This whisky has a rich aroma of sea salt and smoke. A heavy blend where figs, spices, and fruit vie for prominence.

Oban 14 Year Old is part of the Classic Malt Region and is a prime example of a western Highland malt; fruity, full-bodied, and with hints of smoke and heather. It is traditionally crafted at the Oban distillery, located in the fishing village of the same name. This is one of the reasons so many people are drawn to this whisky: it reminds them of the sea.

Oban lies between Scotland's western highlands and islands, right where land and sea meet. The port enjoys a pleasant, mild climate, warmed by the Gulf Stream and drizzle. The whisky has a delightful aroma of seawater and peat, partly due to the barley being dried in a kiln with peat smoke.

History

The Oban Distillery was built in 1794 by the brothers John and Hugh Stevenson , at Oban in Scotland. Oban is situated between the
Scotland's Western Highlands and Islands, right where the land and sea meet.
It is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and the town is practically built around it.

The two brothers operated from this distillery until 1866. In 1866 the distillery was bought by
Peter Curnstie. It was then taken over by Walter Higgin in 1833 and rebuilt.
In 1898, Alexander Edward (who also owned the Aultmore distillery) bought out Higgin. In his first year, he incurred substantial losses when a huge blending company, Pattisons of Leith, went under. In 1923, Oban was sold to the Dewars and Joined Distillers Company. With that company, production ceased from 1931 to 1937 and again from 1969 to 1972 when a new still was built. A new visitor center was also built in 1989.
