Description

HenTho Gin is a 44% amber-colored gin whose unique character makes it difficult to place it in any of the four classic categories. This newcomer to the gin scene was developed by Hendrik and Thomas Coenen (father and son).

This authentic artisanal Antwerp gin is distilled by Thomas on Sundays at his restaurant (12, Place du Marché in Antwerp). They use a 100-liter copper still imported from Portugal.

While the macerate slowly transforms into an extremely strong, clear gin, the bottles are labeled, chatting and making plans—during what they describe as sweet father-son moments. The label was designed by their daughter/sister Charlotte.

At the end of distillation, for color and historical reasons, a small amount of extremely strong, dark macerate of HenTho Gin and juniper berries is added. This gives the gin its unique amber color.

After a period of time for the brand-new gin to stabilize and settle, they bottle and package it themselves. Just a quick stamp with the logo, and the boxes are ready.

As chef/owner of restaurant '12, Place du Marché' in Antwerp, Thomas always chooses the finest ingredients. Most of the herbs and spices used for HenTho are therefore organically grown. The most important of these are juniper berries, coriander, fresh lemongrass, cardamom, black pepper, fresh kaffir lime leaves, and angelica. The remaining botanicals are kept a true "family secret."

Perfect serve:

Always in a glass pre-chilled with ice cubes and a few (preferably) large ice cubes.

Straight Up: 5 cl HenTho.

As a G&T: 5 cl HenTho with 10 cl Syndrome Raw Tonic. Garnish: a stalk of bruised lemongrass.

Alternative: 5 cl HenTho with a bottle of Fentimans Rose Lemonade. Garnish: a few juniper berries and a piece of pink grapefruit.
