Description
Star anise is the fruit of a tree or shrub in Central Asia. The seed pods are picked unripe and dried in the sun.
The flavor of these star-shaped fruits is very similar to anise, but much more intense, so even a small piece of star anise is enough to give all sorts of dishes a delicious aroma. So use it sparingly in your dishes, as the flavor can quickly become overpowering. The fruits are used whole or ground as a spice.
Always buy them in small quantities because the seeds quickly lose their aroma.
