Description
The Caol Ila distillery (pronounced "Cull Eela"), nestled in a hidden cove near Port Askaig, Islay, has been bringing its whisky to market by sea for over a hundred years. Caol Ila is Gaelic for the Sound of Islay, which separates the island from Jura in one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Scotland's west coast. The distillery opened in 1846 on the shores of the Sound, a site originally chosen for the clean waters of Loch Nam Ban, which remain its primary source. Its full, more intense flavor comes from additional maturation compared to its younger counterparts. It has spicy, salty notes, peppery flavors, and a complex, well-rounded finish reminiscent of a smouldering campfire. This single malt won a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2008/2009. All you need to enjoy this great 18 Year Old Caol Ila is a glass.
